Police Resilience

Working with the Police to build their resilience as part of the Mind Blue Light programme has certainly given me a new found respect for those working in the Police force.

Research shows that whilst the police are far more likely to experience stress at work than the rest of us, they are less likely to take time of sick, preferring instead to plough on through any difficulties they may be experiencing, keen not to let their team down. It’s not just the nature of their work either, its the changes underway that also seem to be piling on the pressure for them right now.

It’s wonderful to hear what a strong team working spirit police have; but of course, ploughing on through regardless can take its toll, with the chances of experiencing depression and/or anxiety increasing as a direct result. Perhaps that team spirit can be utilised to better support each other with mental issues. Getting rid of the stigma around mental health can be a useful place to start in to help achieve that.
